There's more to come. The latest patch on patches-scrolls for the english version is v6.04. This version can be patched to v6.06, but patches-scrolls only has v6.06 patches for the german and russian version. This version has a updated game engine, which allows for higher resolutions, and has some other game-related changes. Then, another version of JA2 Wildfire, which is referred to as "WF6", was released. It seems there's no patches for this release on patches-scrolls however. Only "minor hotfixes" were released according to Wikipedia. This version is also referred to as "WF5", and seems to be quite buggy. This version doesn't alter the basic game engine and controls but instead focusses on new environments and items, and stronger enemies. This seems to be a "mod-turned-official", and was released with source code (!). Latest patch is v1.12, again according to patches-scrolls. I presume this version contains maps/levels from both JA2 and JA2UB, plus some changes/updates to the original code. This version implements "improvements from JA2UB" according to Wikipedia. Next in line is JA2 Gold, where everything starts to get complicated. This game seems to be much shorter (less levels/maps) than JA2, and it seems it's not possible to play original JA2 levels/maps in JA2UB. This game can be patched to v1.01, according to patches-scrolls. Then there's JA2 Unfinished Business, which is a stand-alone expansion. There's the original JA2, which can be patched to v1.07 according to patches-scrolls. Let me describe what I've learned so far: Finding out which mod supports which JA2 version and how to properly install everything turned out to be a nightmare though (. It currently has 3 mandatory keys: name, description and version.I'm a big fan of the original JA and wanted to test JA2 + addons/mods on Win7. For moddersįor mods to show up in the launcher, a manifest.json is required. If two mods modify the same file, only one of the changes will have an effect in game - the one from the mod that was loaded last. JA2S enables running multiple mods at once, but beware: there are no guarantees mods will work with each other. You will have to create this mods folder yourself. So in general it’s enough to copy the whole mod folder into a mods folder in your JA2S user directory (where you have ja2.json). Some vanilla JA2 mods may require overwriting existing files, a need that JA2S obviates - mod files and folders have priority. Most mods come with their own installation instructions. If you’re using the AppImage version and want to modify any of the json files, create ~/.ja2/data and copy them inside. You can edit weapons, ammo, shops, enemy weaponĬhoices and much more - at your own peril! You can copy them to your user directory the same way as game.json. The project extracted many hardcoded values from the original sources into editable text files stored in the assets/externalized directory. ![]() This way you won’t lose your settings when you reinstall the engine. You can make a copy and put it near your ja2.json configurationįile, by creating a data folder for it. The launcher will show you the location where you can find it.
