Pizza is also having something of a moment: New concepts such as Mod and Blaze are expanding in the fast-food realm, Chicago-based Giordano's opened a restaurant on Polaris Parkway, Donatos is pushing into more states, and another Columbus chain, Pies and Pints, also has been growing. "Bexley is a great market, and Harvest obviously has a following," he said. Harvest, with its fresh ingredients and local vibe, will fit well in Bexley, said Bob Welcher, president of Restaurant Consultants Inc. "Bexley has always been on our list of neighborhoods," he said. That was Crader's plan this year as well, until the Zoe's Cafe space in Bexley became available - and he jumped on it. "That will take a year or two, and then we will address opportunities as they come." "Our goal is to kind of chill and get the new stores in a good place," he said. After all that development, Crader is ready to ease off the gas pedal a bit. In between, Crader has opened the Sycamore and Cosecha Cocina. A store in Dublin followed in 2016, and an outpost in Cincinnati's hip Over-the-Rhine neighborhood opened last year. It was unusual in that the restaurant served produce grown on Crader's small farm in Canal Winchester.Ī second location opened in Clintonville in 2014. "We didn't intend to do all of these things at once, but we have a special product, people love it, and we have fun doing it."Ĭrader opened his first Harvest in German Village in 2011 at the beginning of the local-food movement. "It's going to be a busy summer," he said. Owner Chris Crader is also rekindling the small chain's frozen-pizza business. This summer, it plans to add a pizzeria/tavern in Grandview Heights and one in Bexley. The Columbus-based pizza maker known for using local, fresh ingredients has restaurants in Dublin, German Village and Clintonville. Harvest Pizzeria is about to get a lot bigger.
